I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
Talk about a twist ending. Maybe it's because I didn't read much New 52, but I didn't suspect a certain character to act the way they did at the end of this, although it makes sense. They keep talking about getting the death penalty and being put down and they clearly want to live: betraying everyone to survive makes sense in this context. Add to the building up of this, the leaving of letters to those they care about, the story about their childhood which was pretty horrific and taught them to be a survivor, and it's not that surprising.
It's shocking when I first read it, though, and it's only more brilliant that it all makes sense in the end.
Now I'm so not sure hot Batman is getting out of this one...
