Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

Wraps up the first storyline of the new series

Ms. Marvel (2015-) #3 - G. Willow Wilson, Cliff Chiang, Takeshi Miyazawa

And it's a doozy: even when Ms. Marvel does everything right, and saves everyone, she finds out it doesn't mean she'll get all the love she was hoping for.  It's not her fault, or the people's fault.   Is is the fault of those who manipulated her, using her image for something they knew she'd never agree to, but those people have been captured.

Bringing evil doers to justice and winning the public's trust don't always go hand-in-hand and it's a hard lesson for anyone, especially a high school girl.   I feel for her.   Hopefully she'll be able to overcome.

She also gets her best friend's new girlfriend to help her, because he's in trouble.   Mike is a girl who's very much a tomboy, completely in love with Bruno and who is also a little overweight.   She's plump.   She's flat out fat as far as most comic book super heroines are concerned.

It also might be a jab at the artist, Mike Miller.   Yes, Michaela Miller goes by Mike Miller.   If you read that article, you find out that the actual artist is not only a homophobe but an Islamaphobe.   So having Mike Miller in a comic about a diverse super heroine and with homoerotic undertones - a guy is proclaiming love for Mike Miller, who is also proclaiming love for a guy - is potentially intentional.   Or maybe not, but the article still points out it's chuckle worthy.

I stumbled upon that and without even that consideration, the Mike parts are great.   She doesn't know she's talking to Kamala - the girl Bruno used to be in love with - and confesses a lot of things, like the fact that Kamala intimidates her.   Kamala sees more to Mike: not someone who's trying to take Bruno away or anything, but rather a girl who fell in love with her best friend.   She didn't give much thought to ignoring Mike in school, but now realizes this means that Mike has taken it a different way: does Kamala hate her, then?

It's going to be interesting seeing how this plays out.   For now, onto issue four.
