Grimlock ♥ Ultra Magnus

I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.

Western AU!

1872 #1 SWA - Marvel Comics

So not only is this an amazing Marvel AU set in the wild west, there are tons of cameos and mentions of characters that are dead, or not seen.   Stark's Vision of the Future - and Vision was supposed to be Ultron's vision of the future, Sheriff Stacy has been killed for upholding the law.  It makes sense: Gwen Stacy's father was a police officer.

Not only that, the main characters - Steve Rogers and Tony Stark - make sense in this context.   Rogers is the new sheriff, who refuses to be cowed by Fisk - a man who wanted the best for this town, but was corrupted, and now rules through intimidation, using any means necessary, including lynching, hanging, and ordering people assassinated, to keep the town under control for his boss, Governor Roxxon.   (Yet another character who looms large, but is not seen in this comic.)

And the dialogue is both rather historically accurate, and in character.    It's just... amazing.   It's unsurprising, given that it's written by one-half of my favorite Deadpool writers.   I didn't give this a chance, because I was originally iffy on the whole Battleworld concept given how much I hated Secret Wars #1.    Then again, I'd started up on some Battleworld series that I love, but still this?  Eh, it wasn't at the top of my list.   After all, I loved Aaron's Wolverine and had trouble with his Thor series, and his Thor that was a reboot with a female Thor.   (I'm struggling through his Thors #1 right now.)  Point is, I loved Duggan's Deadpool, but would I fall in love with his Rogers and Stark?

Yes.   The answer is yes.   And his Bruce Banner and Ben Urich.

And he's teasing us with Bullseye.   Next issue now, plz!   Luckily, I nabbed both on sale - and to think I almost gave up after only finding issue two.   I scrubbed around, found issue one, and I'm so, so pleased right now!   Love, love, love this series.
