I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
And yes, it's called Groot and arguably the focus is on Groot. But, really, while Groot is amazing, he works best with Rocket. It's the banter between them, and the truth is that they're sort of both alone. It's touching to see them bond, or bond more, and it makes their friendship all that more poignant.
But I could sit here, and pick apart why they work as a duo. Or I could point out that they do, and when they're written correctly, it's funny, it's touching, and it just makes me want to read more.
Some of the one liners in this were priceless. I didn't think I'd like this because new writer and artist, but it's just as good as the Rocket Raccoon series by Skottie Young. (Not better, not worse, just different. I adore both series equally. I'll probably rate the first volume, and not each issue, but I don't know. Either way, this was a fun, fun ride, and I wanted to let people know as soon as I'd finished this issue. I think that made it worth tracking down this first issue and rating it!)
If you like either Rocket or Groot, this series - or at least this issue - is for you. It had equal amounts of the two, although Rocket was going to Earth - a place he despises - for Groot. And keep an eye out for the super obvious Superman spoof.
Oh, Rocket, snort, the things you'll do for Groot!
