I'm a well read grad student who's bluntly honest about all things, although I try to be most honest about myself.
I knew I was going to lose friends over reading books that are considered taboo. I didn't realize just how fast.
So I hate hypocrisy and double standards. If you're going to demand that people censor books that are considered taboo, let's do it for EVERYONE. Mein Kampf? Off the table, because it's offensive to a lot of groups of people, including Jews.
If you're unhappy with the fact that I am angry about Jew hate on the left, then I hope you're okay with policing how other minorities talk about the racism directed against them. If they're allowed to be angry and hateful and can't be racists even when they're yelling bigoted things at other groups, then you accept that about Jews. But I am no longer willing to smile when people pat me on the head and tell me to wait, Jew hate will be dealt with eventually, shhh, just be nice about it.
The women's march leaders STILL associate with a man who called Jews termites. I see no reason to be nice, or not hateful to them. These women are worthy ONLY of my contempt, and I will read whatever shit they tell me not to read because I DON'T TRUST THEM AND I DON'T TRUST PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T DISASSOCIATED FROM THEM. So, yeah, if you call me hateful and disassociate from me while loving nazi lovers, that's fine. I don't need you in my life.
I'm sick to my stomach that my choices are Democrats or Republicans. Call me when someone who doesn't hate me for being Jewish comes up. But fuck, I spill my guts about being afraid to be openly Jewish, and I'm dumped on. YOU WOULDN'T TREAT ANY OTHER MINORITY THIS WAY. NONE OF THEM. Jew hate is everywhere.
"I thought, this is poppycock, fuck anyone who tells me what I can and cannot read."
...
Yes, this is my reaction, too, and now I feel dirty.
Look, I'm going to be honest. I'm not sure how much this is going to be painful for people to read, so misogyny AND homophobia behind the break. I'll page break a lot of my updates, I suspect..
I'm sick of antisemitism being romanticized, normalized and cheered on, while the same people who gaslight about it 'being taken care of' and tell us to wait - for over two years - condemn any other forms of racism.
So I'm making a statement by reading this, which is that if one is allowed to lionize those who murder Jews - like the leaders of the women's march do, cozying up to Rasmea Oden, who bombed a supermarket and left two Jewish college students dead - then I am certainly allowed to read Milo's book.
While I expect I'll call Milo a racist and moron a whoooole bunch, it gives me a sense of glee to indulge in the things that piss off Jew haters. Milo is awful for us all, Jew or not. (I kinda vaguely recall that he's Jewish, but, eh, I can't really remember.)
That being said, Milo pisses off Jews, and I still think not knowing what he's saying is more dangerous than knowing if we want to counter what he's saying. So, please, Primus, don't let this be too awful...
I'm really, really not fond of this issue.
Rubble is still annoying, and I don't see where this is going.
Buuuuut, the 1:10 variant is just amazingly gorgeous.
And only because this is the last issue. Very sad. At the same time, I'm happy that it didn't get dragged on so long that it became tedious or stale. So again, mixed feelings, but mostly I want to cry revisiting that this was the final issue.
Highly recommend this series, though.
This is coming to a close - but it's so good. So how good it is makes me happy, while the fact that this series is coming to an end? Makes me so sad I could curl up into a ball and weep.
All. Day. Long.
Anything I say about this, as far as plot and all, seems so wrapped up in previous issues and the Unicron mini-series that ends this all, so I'm not going to say. I'm just going to say that I have mixed feelings about this all.
Do I really need explain the appeal for me? I didn't think so. Plus, I pretty much just love everything Hellboy... Because, bless his soul, he's been raised by nazis and also kicks their asses on a regular basis. He's kinda swoon-y in a non-sexual, but I love that fact about you way for me.
So, yeah, love pretty much everything Hellboy. Although I heard the new movie blew so I skipped in in theater and hope it's not as bas as it seems when it comes time to stream it...
Elvira continues to evade the monster after her, while chilling out with Stoker for a while. It's fascinating to see the present day horror icon meet up with past horror icons, without losing any of the flippant sensibility that Elvira has had since her conception.
Continues to be so much fun. This was the last issue in Humble Bundle and I've been so overwhelmed and quite frankly depressed that I haven't read past this, or even bought the other issues in this mini-series so far.
It's Poe up to bat. Elvira is pulled back into another time travel adventure as she tries to escape the horror hunting her. This time, she meets Poe. The gags continue to be fast and furious. This mini-series runs on gags, and refuses to take anything seriously, and it's charming.
Again, not pure horror, not very violent or gory, but it hit the spot because it was light in all the right ways.
I got the first three issues in a Humble Bundle, and so far this has been fun! Elvira's coffin turns into a time travel machine and she visits horror authors throughout time. But it's all not just fun-time shennanigans in the past: she's also being stalked by someone determined to have her.
Mary Shelley is up first, and the culture shock of present-meets-past is done in a tongue-in-cheek style, pairing up with a little meta of having Elvira speak directly to the audience, aware she's in a comic.
It's clever, and all the more fun for not taking itself seriously at all. It doesn't pretend to be anything but an Eivira comic: it's B-grade entertainment, aware of it, and in fact it revels in its status. Then again, it would come off as stiff, or even petty, if it wasn't - or worse yet tried to act as if it were more than it were.
I'd definitely suggest this for a horror fan, although it's equal parts comedy and not all that violent or gory for those who want that in their horror. (I do, sometimes. And sometimes I'm not in a horror mood at all. And I can certainly appreciate lighter horror, both in violent/gore content or in tone, so I do have a range that I enjoy.)
I have so many thoughts, and none of them are complimentary. Who's seen it? What did you think?
I think this was another Humble Bundle read. Anyway, it was a lot of fun. It was all about a hitman and a woman trapped in an abusive marriage, whose lives intersect in a completely unexpected way. I won't give away the end of this issue, but I found myself pulled in, as I most often am when Gail Simone is writing.
The details were sometimes painful, but not gratuitously so: they were painful because showed how hard it is to get out of an abusive relationship. The characters were well developed, and this was honestly almost all set up, but fascinating and necessary setup so I didn't feel cheated. Even though everything set up the last couple of pages, I was into it all.
Also, so behind on reviews just adding many books and only saying things about the books that moved me a great deal either way.
Too time consuming to take out the stickies. I also think they might still be meaningful after a couple years but boy did I read a lot into this book! Snickering a little at myself, too.
So the last time something was delayed and told me it was in transit, Amazon shipped the lego set to Virginia and then canceled it and went LOL, just pay $20 extra. I eventually got them to take away a useless refund and give me $20 on my credit card right back so it didn't cost me extra.
Now they're like LOL, we can't tell you where your graduation cap is. I'm so disillusioned by this. Most of the time it works great, and now they cut me off - or I cut myself off earlier - and the person on chat was like we can't find it. And no, they don't laugh out loud about it, but I kinda feel like it right now. I'm stressed, I'm near tears, and yes, they gave me a $15 dollar refund and offered to cancel this and order it again - oh, wait, it's SOLD OUT - but I'm just like well, maybe this doesn't come and they'll all be sold out.
What. The. Hell?
Amazon is convenient - until it isn't. Seeing as this was used with Student Prime and should have been here two days ago, yeah, I'm not happy with them.
